Despite the absence of top mare GIRL SUNDAY. Lang Brothers Racing will once again be represented at the rich two day Scone Racing Carnival which kicks off on Friday.
Lang Brothers Racing have had runners at the iconic Scone carnival for the past two years – FINE MIST running a very unlucky second to IN A WINK in the 2015 Denise’s Joy Stakes , before GIRL SUNDAY ran in last years edition of the Scone Guineas.
This year it will be three year old Denman filly CYMBALISM flying the LBR flag when she contests the 1300m Maiden on the opening day of the carnival.
Coming off a debut third at Canterbury, the filly could only manage a fourth placing behind stablemate NOIRE at her subsequent run at the same track.
That was over the 1200m on the tighter Canterbury track, therefore the extra 100m , plus the added bonus of the roomy Scone track should hopefully pave the way for her to break her duck. Top jockey Hugh Bowman has been engaged for the ride on Friday.
Interestingly , FINE MIST will run in the final of the SA Sprint Series in Adelaide on Saturday , two years after running second at the Scone meeting. The grey mare was a surprise winner over the same course and distance two weeks ago , the victory qualifying her for the final. Her winning rider Jason Holder will once again be in the saddle where she will carry top weight of 59kg . After a run of horror barrier draws, the barrier gods have again smiled upon her , FINE MIST drawing favourably in gate six.
GIRL SUNDAY resumed in last Saturdays Silk Stocking and quite simply you need to put a pen through the run as nothing went to plan. Drawn the inside , against a hot speed, jockey Ronnie Stewart was left a sitting shot as the speed poured on from out wide. This forced GIRL SUNDAY to drift back further than anticipated and she saw plenty of backside all the way up the straight when finishing near the tail of the field. It was nothing more than a barrier trial for the big mare and she has now returned to Sydney as connections plot her next move.
But all eyes will be on Scone this Friday as connections hope CYMBALISM can notch up her maiden victory , while FINE MIST will be aiming to add another notch to her impressive resume on Saturday at Morphetville.
