Three long years have passed since Lang Brothers Racing tasted the thrill of  Group 1 racing for the first time.

It was at this weekends corresponding Stradbroke meeting in 2014 when BRAZEN BEAU stepped out in the time honoured J J Atkins Stakes over the mile as a late two year old.

Coming off a win in the Champagne Classic , and a close second to TIME FOR WAR in the Sires Produce, BRAZEN BEAU was sent to the post a dominant favourite.

He would  eventually run a gallant second to the Gai Waterhouse trained ALMALAD., however it simply proved a taste of what was to come for the owners , for little did they know the whirlwind ride he would take them on over the next two racing seasons, culminating in his two Group 1 victories at Flemington.

The team have dreamt of racing at the top level ever since BRAZEN BEAU was retired to stud in 2015 and the opportunity may very well come at the same track later this month.

Talented mare GIRL SUNDAY looks likely to be targeted towards the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara, given the switch to Doomben and the wet conditions in Sydney. Especially given the race will now be run over a shortened 1350m, a distance that now looks ideal after her last start fifth over 1200m last Saturday.

GIRL SUNDAY would certainly need to lift to a new level to be competitive in a race like the Tiara, however the owners are buoyed by the fact she has mixed it with nominal race favourite BONNIE O’REILLY and acquitted herself well.

A placing in the Tiara would cement her residual value as a broodmare prospect, however more importantly, allow Lang Brothers Racing to once again experience the thrill of having a runner in a Group 1 race.

TIPS FOR DOOMBEN TOMORROW

Lang Brothers Racing has a unashamed crush on CLEARLY INNOCENT and once again the five year old Kris Lees trained gelding will prove very hard to beat. Godolphin three year old IMPENDING and the Chris Waller trained COUNTERATTACK look the obvious dangers.

Earlier on the Doomben card , three year old filly RAIMENT can bring the winning run of the aforementioned BONNIE O’REILLY to a close , when they clash in the Dane Ripper Stakes , a traditional lead up to the Tatt’s Tiara to be run at Doomben on June 24.
