Talented mare GIN N BITTERS returns to racing tomorrow at the Gold Coast where she tackles the 1100m XXXX Benchmark 72 Handicap.

GIN N BITTERS was a strong Saturday class winner at Doomben in November 2020 , before disappointing when again solid in the market at the same track in December , finishing 5th behind PULL ANCHOR.

Early thoughts were she may have suffered an injury during the run given expectations were she would run well , but subsequent vet checks found no abnormalities , so trainer Billy Healey elected to give her a lengthy spell.

“The mare was not quite the finished article last prep but she has come back a more mature , physically imposing mare this time in” said Healey.

“Her work has been really good and I thought her jump out recently suggested she was in for a strong campaign”.

This campaign will ultimately aim to secure some black type for connections with her future at stud always at the back of their minds.

“Being a metro winning SEBRING mare you would think she has a nice future as a broodmare prospect when her racing days are over“ said managing part owner Matt Lang.

“We didn’t pay a lot for her and the fact she has been able to win four races is certainly a bonus”.

“To get a black type win with her during the upcoming Brisbane winter carnival would certainly be the cherry on top” added Lang .

A first up victory will not be an easy assignment however given she needs to contend with both a wide gate and stiff opposition from promising filly WEONA SMARTONE and smart mare HOWWONDERFULLIFEIS.

“She faces a pretty solid Wednesday class race on resumption and the wide gate certainly makes it tricky” said Lang

“We do have Robbie Fradd back on and he is actually unbeaten on her “ added Lang

“We have to kick her off somewhere and this does look a suitable race for her to kickstart this prep” concluded Lang.

GIN IN BITTERS is a five year old daughter of SEBRING and has managed four wins and a second in only nine career starts.

Connections will be hoping tomorrow is the spring board onto some better class races during the winter.
