Darley Stallion Skilled parading in 2016. His son Experienced will debut for Lang Brothers Racing at Bathurst on Tuesday.
Anzac Day has always held a close place in the hearts of the Lang Brothers , however 2017 may hold even more significance in the years to come.
With both grandfathers veterans of World War II, the Anzac legend is something that resonates with both of them. Therefore it is significant that Anzac Day will also mark the first time the Lang Brothers Racing colours are worn in an official race.
They will be carried by three year old gelding EXPERIENCED, in a 1400m Maiden , at the time honoured Soldier’s Saddle meeting at Bathurst on Tuesday.
Trained at Hawkesbury by Luke Hilton, the big rangy son of SKILLED, also marks the start of a racing partnership between Hilton and Lang Brothers Racing.
Hilton will also train the SMART MISSILE x PRAY TO GOD gelding purchased at the recent Inglis Classic Sale , as well as an EXCEEDINGLY GOOD filly out of our own mare , AUTOMATIC SLIM (x Carnegie).
He warmed up for his racetrack debut in a recent Hawkesbury trial , where although finishing at the tail of the small field, he hit the line strongly over the concluding stages.
While the 1400m looks too short first up, Hilton is looking forward to stepping him up to 2000m and beyond, where he feels we will see him at his best.
Tuesdays race looks an ideal kick off point according to Lang Brothers Racing manager , Matt Lang.
“I really liked his trial at Hawkesbury” said Lang. “ He was all at sea coming around the turn and Adam (Heironymus) said he was a bit cheeky behind the barriers. He’s just a big kid”.
“Whatever he does on Tuesday will only educate him further and I am really looking forward to seeing him step out over 2000m and beyond”.
“Hopefully from the inside draw he can get into a nice rhythm and hopefully we can see him hitting the line late “ concluded Lang.
Whilst a win would be a welcome surprise, it will be great to see the Lang Brothers Racing colours in full flight on one of Australia’s most sacred days.
