Enigmatic galloper DREAM MASTER finally repaid the faith of his owners when he won his maiden impressively by five lengths at Ballina last start.
The stunning black son of European sire DREAM AHEAD will look to consolidate that performance when he steps up in grade at the Sunshine Coast this afternoon.
The Toby Edmonds stable is in a rich vain of form at the moment, consolidated by his success with Ontrack runners over the past two months. In addition to the strong win of DREAM MASTER, he has also had IMPREGNABLE and KNOCKOURA break through for much needed success in the all gold.
DREAM MASTER started his career under the watchful eye of Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller, however after a handful of mediocre efforts, the decision was made to send him north to Edmonds .
He debuted for the stable with a luckless 4th at Grafton as a well backed favourite , before again earning the ire of punters when only managing 3rd at Coffs Harbour in May .
You can only imagine the frustration of owners and punters alike , when he dumped the rider 20 metres after the start at Murwhillimbah in what looked a very winnable race. Certainly the punters who dived into the $1.70 were cursing his name .
He looked to finally have broken his maiden at the Gold Coast , when despite jumping from a horror draw and travelling wide throughout , he was tragically only run down in the shadows of the post by MEHMETO.
But such was his appearance in the mounting yard , the punters were quick to dive in again at Ballina, thankfully they didn’t have too many anxious moments as Jeff Lloyd sent him to the front and it was over a long way from home.
He still appeared a bit wayward over the concluding stages at Ballina, but the addition of blinkers certainly appeared to switch him on sufficiently enough to break his maiden.
Edmonds has not had to do a great deal with him since that run, just allowing him to tick over, given he is a very fit racehorse.
Edmonds acknowledged that although up in class , the inside draw , combined with the services of top hoop Michael Cahill, certainly give him the chance to be competitive this afternoon.
The punters agree with him. He is currently a well-backed $2.70 favourite with most agencies.
The race jumps at 4.05pm this afternoon and is race 7 on the program.
Best of luck to all connections
