Featured as a Breednet ‘One to Watch’ when she broke her maiden at Wyong in July last year, promising mare Fine Mist has added plenty of wins to her resume since then including a powerful victory at Warwick Farm on Monday. Prepared by Bede Murray, the dashing grey daughter of Good Journey (USA) found Catkins and company a bit sharp when returning from a spell in the Group III ATC Sheraco Stakes last month, but was right at home back in an open company flying handicap over 1000 metres.

She raced away to beat stakes-winner Onemorezeta by a length with the topweight and favourite Diamond Oasis in fourth place. Retained to race after passing in shy of her $45,000 reserve when offered by Oakford Thoroughbred Farm at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Fine Mist (pictured Steve Hart) has now won six of 13 starts earning nearly $200,000 in prizemoney and has better wins in store.

Murray said the mare will return to stakes company in the Group III ATC Nivison Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 17 as she looks to add to her black-type placing in the Listed Denise’s Joy (1100m) at Scone back in May.

“She’s starting to mature mentally now, it was a very nice win,” Murray said. “I thought she could win even though there were some hard heads in there. “She had the lightest weight I think she’s ever carried today and she did it well. “There’s better things ahead for her, probably more so in the autumn but she’ll go to the Nivison next start.”

She is the second winner for smart Sydney metropolitan winner Mistifies, who was also trained by Bede Murray as was her dam Misty Jude. Grey in colour as are all the other flying ‘Misty’s’ in this family, Fine Mist looks to have her share of ability and looks set to add further lustre to a family that has produced many stakes-winner led by Group I winning sprinter Notoire. Fine Mist looks a potential stakes-winner for Cornerstone Stud’s Good Journey, who stands at a fee of $8,800 this spring.
