Two fillies purchased at this years Inglis Classic sale will finish breaking with Paul Blattman at Whispering Pines next week with the longer term goal of joining the broodmare band of Lang Brothers Racing.
The first of these is a lovely filly by Vinery stallion ALL TOO HARD , the second foal of LOHNRO mare TALIMENA , herself a three quarter sister to DENMAN , the former Darley stallion who will stand at Twin Hill’s Cootamundra stud this season.
The family had a significant upgrade courtesy of second dam QUACHITA, thanks to two year old filly KIAMICHI , who scored an upset win in the Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill last month.
Further complementing the family is COSSETOT , a three year old gelding by EPAULETTE , who was victorious in the Listed Tasmanian Derby in February, before running a game third in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes , behind eventual ATC Derby winner ANGEL OF TRUTH.
The filly has really impressed the team at Whispering Pines with her attitude during breaking and now looks tremendous value after being knocked down to the team for only $40,000.
Joining her is the chestnut filly by Widden’s STAR WITNESS out of MORE THAN READY mare THAT’S AMORE , closely related to our very own VERSETTO , who also looks value after being knocked down to the same partnership for $37,500.
This filly has proved a little harder to handle , however the family look like they may need time, and hopefully she will settle down after heading back to Redbank for a spell after breaking.
“We made a conscious decision to look to purchase race fillies this year with the longer term goal of adding them to our breeding stocks in the future ” said Stuart Lang from LBR.
“Thankfully through our connection with the Middleton’s at Redbank North , we were able to form a three way partnership with Canberra trainer Keith Dryden and purchase two really nice fillies”.
“Paul really likes these two fillies on what he has seen to date , so hopefully they can win a few races and develop into good broodmares for us one day,” Lang added.
The fillies will finish breaking over the next week or so and head back to the paddock to continue their development.
