A wide barrier and the threat of torrential rain caused the owners of four year old mare GIRL SUNDAY to head to Rosehill on Saturday with reduced expectations.

The fact they all walked out of the track dreaming of things to come was testament to the brave run posted in defeat when fourth to talented filly BONNIE O’REILLY.

Hustled out of the gates by regular rider James Innes Jnr, GIRL SUNDAY was able to cross the field and eventually find the lead after 500m.

Innes Jnr was able to slam on the brakes and get a much needed breather nearing the turn , however the effort to get there would ultimately prove the difference between victory and defeat.

The mare showed her customary dash at the 300m , only to be run down late by the winner, WILD AND FAMOUS and DREAM LANE, beaten less than two lengths in quick time.

After a luckless run at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago, the 1200m of Saturday’s race always looked too short, yet the Gerald Ryan team had done a great job getting her ready for the shorter trip and the imposing mare certainly showed up ready to run.

GIRL SUNDAY was able to string a hatrick of metropolitan wins together last preparation and she looks to have her foot right on the till for her next assignment in two weeks time, again at Rosehill over 1400m.

The promise of a black type victory for the daughter of EN COSTA DE LAGO looms large, however the owners are safe in the knowledge they will be in the winners room soon enough.
