Well named three year old gelding HASLER makes his long awaited race debut at Moruya this afternoon in the SOUTH COAST WINDOW FURNISHINGS MAIDEN PLATE.

By champion European miler FREE EAGLE , the gelding has been given plenty of time to mature by trainer Joe Ible , and will certainly improve on whatever he does today.

Purchased at the 2019 Melbourne Premier Yearling sale by DJI Bloodstock, HASLER was born and raised at Mill Park , a nursery that has produced Group 1 winners like FAWKNER , MUMMIFY and VRC Derby hero WARNING

Whilst it’s certainly a long way from a Moruya maiden to Group One glory, the ownership group are under no allusion the best of HASLER is still some time off.

“He has always shown us he has ability “ said managing part owner Matt Lang .

“He is a lovely horse , that classic big , strong staying type as his pedigree would suggest”.

Out of ZABEEL mare THIRD DAY , he is bred to stay all day and todays 1200m certainly looks well short of his preferred distance.

But with the addition of blinkers and with regular hoop Billy Owen in the saddle , the owners are hoping to see some improvement on his trial efforts where clearly the 800m was too short.

“His trial form doesn’t read too well but we are keen to see what he can show us over a bit further under race conditions “ said Lang.

“He was gelded prior to this preparation and Joe has said he is a much better horse to handle now”.

“He gets the blinkers on today as well so we are hoping this can add a bit of spark and we would love to see him hitting the line late “ concluded Lang.

When quizzed about the name HASLER Lang was quick to confirm the relationship with his famous namesake.

“Few of the boys are die hard Sea Eagles fans , myself included , so being by FREE EAGLE we thought we would name him after Manly coach Des Hasler” explained Lang.

“We have an Eels and Bulldogs fan in the ownership group so it certainly wasn’t an easy sell to get the name across the line “ laughed Lang.

“But I am sure if we can get a few wins out of him they won’t be too concerned “

HASLER makes his debut in Race 3 on todays Moruya card , the SOUTH COAST WINDOW FURNISHINGS MAIDEN PLATE over 1200m which jumps at 1.55pm.

HASLER is currently rated a $31 chance .
