Enigmatic gelding VERSETTO will line up at Wednesdays Ipswich meeting looking to maintain his unbeaten second up record.
VERSETTO will be ridden by James Orman , the in form jockey coming in fresh off his third placing on NICCANOVA in this years Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
Orman was aboard VERSETTO when he made his debut for trainer Billy Healey at the Sunshine Coast in January after transferring from the Bjorn Baker yard in Sydney .
He was a well backed $2 fav on that occasion and looked to be somewhat disappointing over the concluding stages when it looked ike the race was his for the taking.
A subsequent veterinary examination found residual soreness in his pelvis, an issue which has plagued the imposing son of YOUR SONG , since he was a two year old.
Healey gave him a decent spell at his Sunshine Coast property and brought him back slowly , even giving hm a couple fo weeks at an equestrian school , to build a strong fitness base.
Healey feels VERSETTO is a horse who is at his best fresh , and has resisted the temptation to barrier trial , despite a lack of suitable options.
He was accepted to run at Doomben last Saturday but was struck down by an elevated temperature the morning acceptances were due and didn’t take his place.
VERSETTO had also accepted at Rockhampton on Tuesday in a race subsequently taken out by stablemate UNDERWOOD, the second of two winners for the Healey stable , after I AM CLEVER won earlier in the day.
“His run first up with 60kg was probably a bit better than it looks in the form guide ” said managing owner Matt Lang.
“He drew barrier one on that occasion and Justin (Huxtable) found himself cluttered in behind runners and given he is such a big horse , he had little luck finding a clear passage” added Lang .
“He copped a bit of a whack from the horse on his outside just before straightening as well and it knocked the wind out of his sails”.
“He actually hit the line pretty well with the big weight so we are expecting another forward showing from him on Wednesday ” concluded Lang.
In what looks a pretty handy race on paper , with pre race favourite SOCIALISING aiming for the hatrick , VERSETTO finds himself at double figures despite having won both his previous second up attempts.
VERSETTO will line up in Race 6 on the program , the TONY MADDEN ARCHITECTS PTY LTD BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1200 METRES) set to jump at 4.35p.m.
